Oh, you are really good!

Really, you are good! It worked.

The bad streak of luck is now history.
Thank you.
This morning we have a new arrival. Flutter delivered a beautiful Flecket Yuglet ewe lamb. She's up and messy and eating and running around and I am ecstatic. Mom is much like her brother Topple- wonderful personality, and calm. She delivered all on her own too. Flutter and her big girl are in their jug enjoying their breakfast together.
Phew! I feel better now!

Dear Suzanne, I got your post to the Shetland list via digest, and dashed over here to see what had happened. I am so sorry to hear about the first two spotted lambs; what heartbreak! And it does indeed seem very strange that no one was interested in the ram lamb. Were any experienced ewes in the pen? If so, you almost have to wonder if there was an abnormality they sensed; perhaps he was even still-birthed. And thanks for saying you felt for teeth on the tiny ewe; it makes sense but I don't know that I would have thought to do that. I will store that away in my "database."

Who was Flutter bred to? I'm assuming not her brother.... Are the Missouri five all yearlings? Seems odd that they are all singling unless they are young.

(((((hugs)))))

Hi Garrett - yes, you are very lucky to have her there! Has Peeeps arrived yet? Tell her the good news...

and Michelle...yes, preemies don't have fully developed teeth - usually. I found, once I put my glasses on, that she had thick skin over them still. Yes, she was way too early. So it's a good thing to know and share with others, since we all wonder 'what did we do wrong'.. or what could we have done differently. Sometimes nothing could have been done.

And yes, all 5 girls came from Mary Ellen last year so are all yearlings. There are 6 other ewes with them, 4 of them former mothers with good maternal skills...so I was suprised to find him that way considering the others being there too. BUT, if he was born RIGHT after I put more hay out, then they may have all been too busy with the hay to have bothered to come over for a look and help out. That happens too!
