Awt and whites....

I took a bunch of photos today...and it's raining out now and I have my chores done so I can sit and blog a bit...

Awt is interesting....genetically it can enhance other colors. Now, Blanche is out of an Awt ewe by a Musket ram. As Blanche gets older, she's expressing more of her "Musket" side....

the first photo below is a group of lambs and one ewe. At the bottom right is Princess...flecket, yuglet...but look how white and bright her fleece is compared to Blanche's creamy colored fleece... click on the photo and you'll see it in a larger version....

Now look at Blanche in these photos below - click on them to enlarge.....

Color genetics are very interesting. Look at Blanche's legs and nose...as she gets older, I'm seeing more 'color' showing up. Perhaps she carries a modifier...perhaps she's a brighter, whiter Musket....we'll know more this winter, stay tuned....hehehehehe.............

Keep in mind that Blanche's dam is Awt/Aa Bb/B? (had a moorit son with a krunet) and Braveheart is Ag/Aa. It will be interesting to see if Blanche is Awt/Ag or Awt/Aa. How does her fleece compare to Princess' at the skin? Still not as white? Or is she just dirtier at the tips (we have lovely red dirt here)? I still think she is beautiful! (Love you, Blanche!)

I think she is beautiful, and she still loves her skritches too...
I believe she is Awt/Aa...I don't see Ag so far, time will tell tho. Her fleece is not as white as Princess's fleece nor at the skin either. Wouldn't it be nice if Blanche was modified and carried Mioget?? Yay would be my response for sure!

I am glad you ended up with Blanche, since you passed up Marshmello so she could come here. I am taking very good care of her I promise. Now she is a "white spot" so not Awt, right? I was thinking about breeding her to my Katmoget lamb ram that may carry spots from his Twin Springs mom and see what happens.

I have three whites in my flock..

Rachildas is proven Awt/Ag. She only throws whites or bersuggets.

Rahu is her daughter out of a gulmoget (At/Aa)but Rahu is of course Awt/Aa as she had a solid black ram lamb this year. Dang I was hoping for white and gulmoget LOL

Rush is Rachildas girl from this year. she is Awt/Aa as her dad was fawn.

All of them were born white and eventually got the illget pattern (colored spots on ears, head and legs) or sometimes referred to as Phaeo. Rahu was born solid white and now has a grey nose and eyelids and brown spots on her legs, head and ears.

Rush had a grey nose, but pink ears and solid white legs but now they are too getting the illget markings.

White covers up so much, you only know by test breeding. I'd hate to have an Awt/Awt......i'd never know what she was carrying!

Thanks Garrett for the insight too. I'm thinking Blanche is Awt/Aa...but in a way she's almost like a lamb turning Fawn. You're right tho - white covers up so much, but perhaps it doesn't wipe out patterns, just colors.....can you imagine how crazy you'd go if she was a he!!!
